Can Mindfulness Help Your Business?
Mindfulness has been taught for centuries in various Eastern traditions ranging from Budhism and Tao through to Zen and Hindu. It’s become pervasive in Western culture within modern Yoga schools, new age meditation retreats, organic and natural living communities.
Here in Australia, schools and universities are now using mindfulness as a way of improving focus and productivity, and reducing student anxiety. It’s also a practice that major corporations and other businesses around the world have embraced, as its benefits are improving the overall well-being of their employees. It seems that staff who are happy and focused, are more creative and productive, collectively helping to create a positive working environment.
The following video presents a story attributed to the North American Indians, where an elder is speaking to a small child about mindfulness and the differences between the angry wolf and the kind wolf.
The angry wolf and the kind peaceful wolf
Learning to observe our emotions
According to this insightful short story, we do have a choice when dealing with different life experiences. There are a range of emotions and feelings that we are free to express in any given situation. However, if we can learn to catch ourselves early and observe our emotions without getting too caught up in them, we are better equipped to find a happy peaceful positive path forward.
Angry wolf traits
When it comes to business for example, fear of the unknown, blaming the competition, the dread of not having enough money, these are all ‘angry wolf’ traits.
Peaceful wolf traits
Whereas being creative and open to new opportunities, focusing on solutions and abundance, being kind to others and having fun, are traits attributed to the ‘kind and peaceful wolf’. Paying attention to the kind and peaceful wolf, can help us move forward with a guiding light through all types of life situations. Giving us space to check our thoughts and feelings as they occur and choose whether we want to hold onto them or let them go.
A belief is just a thought that you think over and over again.
